IRC is a fairly painless program. To begin with, go to http://www.mirc.com
Click on download MIRC (basically just pick a site that's near you, and click on the link). That should start your download process. Just make sure that you download the right bit processor (16 bit is for older systems, with Win 3.1 or so on it; 32 bit is for Win95 and higher). Choose save file to disk, just remember where you put it.
Once you finish downloading, run the program (go to Start, Run, Browse to where the .exe file is located, etc.). During installation, it'll ask you if you want the IRC program available on desktop, say yes, it will keep you from searching for it all the time.
Once the installation procedure is finished, double click on the MIRC icon to boot the program. It'll take you to the mIRC Options Window. Once there, it will ask you to choose an IRC server. With some new changes that have happened to mIRC you'll need to ADD a new server to the list (see list below):

orion.unirc.net
gaia.unirc.net
escaped.unirc.net
nemesis.unirc.net
infinity.unirc.net
In the mIRC Options Window, press the ADD button. In the Description Area you can enter (for example): Nemesis UNIRC. For IRC Server enter the full address, i.e.: nemesis.unirc.net. Then press Add.
Back at the mIRC Options screen, fill in your name (it is suggested that you don't use your real name...use an alias), email address, nickname and alternative nickname.. all your own preferences of course.
Once you've filled in all the boxes, make sure that one of the servers you have created is visible in the window below where it says IRC Servers, click on connect to server. You'll connect and a list of room names will come up. Click the ADD button and type in Channel: #dkeb (Password stays blank). Description is basically just DKEB chat room. Then click OK. DKEB should now be listed in your choice menu.
To join these rooms all you have to do is double click on them in your room list, and they should open automatically. :)
